The training that was launched on 07th January was done in different shifts of participants to ensure better outcomes.
The training was held in the context of the multi sectorial partnership in fighting gender based violence (GBV) and child abuse through the Isange One Stop Center model.
The objectives of this training were to improve technical knowledge for service providers and strategies to respond and manage GBV and child abuse cases at the health center level, increase knowledge on effective coordination and referral of victims from communities.
This training was organized by the Rwanda Biomedical Center in collaboration with the Ministry Gender and Family promotion, Ministry of Justice, Rwanda National Police and Rwanda Investigation Bureau among others.
It is in line with the government’s efforts to eradicate, prevent and effectively respond to GBV and child abuse cases by extending the Isange One Stop Center (IOSC) services to health centers.
During the closing ceremony at the Center of Excellence on GBV and Child abuse in Kacyiru, Ms. Umutoni Gatsinzi Nadine, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, noted that the Government of Rwanda has demonstrated the highest political will in eradicating GBV and child abuse in its forms.
“Lower level structures like health centers, RIB and Police stations play a vital role in tackling GBV and child abuse through provision of services and raising awareness on the vice in communities and this is mainly because of their proximity and quick response where these crimes have been committed,” said the Permanent Secretary.
She urged for close collaboration, timely reporting, efficiently supporting victims and make use of the existing approaches like community policing, Umugoroba w'ababyeyi among others to raise community awareness.
